That difference is not trivial. A discrepancy of two months changes:

  • which training exercise may have been under way;
  • which visiting Canadian or American units were present;
  • the phase of the moon and night-time illumination;
  • local weather conditions;
  • the aircraft and helicopters likely to have been operating; and
  • the personnel who might have been serving on guard duty.

Which military and weather records would matter

If the exact date were known, several categories of records could potentially help evaluate the report.

Military documentation could include exercise orders, range schedules, aviation movements, helicopter tasking, visiting-unit timetables and ammunition-storage security arrangements. Why archived Gagetown records are not a simple answer
