Introduction
The witness accounts from the evening of 4 October 1967 are the foundation of the Shag Harbour incident. They do not describe a close encounter with a clearly identifiable craft. The Sequence of Lights and Their Descent
The earliest and best-known account came from Laurie Wickens, then 17 years old, who was driving with four companions along Highway 3 near Shag Harbour shortly after 11 pm. They noticed a series of bright lights moving across the sky before descending towards the sea.

Because observers were spread across different locations around the harbour, variations in sound reports are unsurprising. Weather conditions, distance from the apparent impact point and local terrain would all have affected what could be heard.

No clear view of a craft
Despite many later artistic reconstructions, the original eyewitness testimony is more restrained than popular retellings often suggest.
Most witnesses did not report seeing a detailed vehicle with windows, wings or other identifiable structure. Some later accounts refer to a dark shape associated with the light, while others describe only the illumination itself. Why the Witness Testimony Still Matters
The witness accounts remain significant because they triggered a genuine search-and-rescue operation rather than emerging later as a purely anecdotal UFO story.
